WHAT IS CALWORKS?

The California Work Opportunities and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) Program at Madera Community College is designed to help TANF recipient who is receiving cash aid for themselves and any dependent children.

Our Mission

We are committed to provide CalWORKs student with skills to become gainfully employed and financially self-sufficient though education and employment opportunities.

Eligibility Requirements

If you receive cash aid from a county welfare department, have children, and are enrolled in college or want to sign up for college, you can participate in the CalWORKs Program at Madera College and Oakhurst Center. 

  • Students must provide proof that they are receiving public assistance at the time of intake.

If you attend Madera Community College while receiving aid, you may be eligible for:

  • Academic, Career, & Personal Counseling
  • Priority Registration
  • Textbooks & School Supplies
  • Child Care & Transportation Assistance
  • Job Placement
  • Job Training Programs
  • LifeSkills Courses in Life Strategies for Success, Financial Literacy (Practical Money Skills for Life), & Healthy Parenting/Family Relationships
  • Referrals to on/off campus Support Services
  • Work Study (earn while you learn through paid on-campus jobs!)

We can help you with child care

While you attend classes and educational activities, you may be able to leave toddler on campus with the Madera Community College Child Development Center.  You'll get priority acceptance for enrollment.

We can help you put extra money in your pocket

Our Work Study program will help you find a job on campus.  You'll gain valuable job skills, earn references, and get a paycheck in addition to your regular cash aid grant.  This is a great way to make extra money while you're on aid.  You may also be eligible for additional cash grants through financial aid.

Give us a call to join the MCC CalWORKs program at 559.675.4840, or have your Job Specialist, Case Manager, or Self-Sufficiency Counselor refer you to our program!
