Madera Community College works closely with community partners, such as the Madera Unified School District and the Madera Adult School, to offer English Second Language classes to the broader Madera community. We also offer higher-level English classes virtually and in-person on the MCC campus. Our aim is to have a tutor embedded in every ESL class. These tutors attend class along with students and hold class-specific drop-in tutoring hours and study sessions.
Many of our ESL tutors are students who've gone through our ESL program, but you don't have to have gone through the program to apply. ESL tutors must have a solid understanding of English grammar and should be familiar with a range of listening, speaking, and reading strategies. While it is not a job requirement, bilingual and multilingual applicants are preferred.
