CRRSAA Emergency Grant

December 2020, a second stimulus package, the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA) was approved and provides additional emergency grant assistance for college students. Madera College is able to help students pay for anything related to their cost of attendance or emergency costs that arise due to COVID such as food, housing, health care, childcare, or technology expenses.

Madera College received $3,421,154 to assist enrolled students. As of September 30, 2022, we have awarded and disbursed $1,316,333 to 1,924 students. Students are encouraged to check Self Service to verify their award amount. Please cash these emergency grant checks as soon as possible within 30-days of receipt.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Who is eligible?

A: Most students who were enrolled Spring 2021 and had expenses due to COVID will qualify. No additional application is required. Emergency grant assistance is available to help cover eligible expenses such as food, housing, course materials, technology/internet service, health care, childcare as well as books and supplies.

High school and dual enrollment students are eligible for a standard grant amount regardless of enrollment status.

Q. What is the award amount?

A: Awards were based on students’ financial aid application filing status, applicants Expected Family Contribution (EFC as determined by the FAFSA), and Spring 2021 enrollment status.* The CRRSAA requires that institutions prioritize students with exceptional need, such as those who are Pell Grant eligible. Spring 2021 grants were awarded between $100 and $700.

Grant disbursements are scheduled for Thursday, April 1, 2021.

*High school and dual enrollment students are eligible for a standard grant amount of $100 regardless of enrollment status.

**Students enrolled in all non-credit classes (0 units) are considered enrolled less than half-time.

Q. Is it too late to apply for Financial Aid?

A: No, it is not too late to file a FAFSA. Students can still apply for financial aid for Summer 2020, Fall 2020, and Spring 2021 by completing the 2020-2021 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students continuing their education Summer/Fall 2021 should also be sure to complete the 2021-2022 FAFSA or 2021-2022 California Dream Act Application (CADAA).

Q. Do I have to repay Emergency funds if I drop classes?

Students do not have to repay Emergency funds once determined eligible at the time of disbursement.

Q. How will I get the Emergency funds?

A: Students who have set-up direct deposit will have the funds deposited into your bank account. If direct deposit has not been set-up, a paper check will be mailed to the address on file on Web Advisor. Grant disbursements are scheduled for Thursday, April 1, 2021.
