Dear Colleagues,
The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has announced the introduction of the new 357 area code as an overlay to the existing 559 area code, which serves the Central Valley region, including Fresno, Madera, Kings, and Tulare counties. This change is being implemented to meet the growing demand for new telephone numbers.
February 26, 2025: Mandatory dialing procedure change. All calls, even local ones, will require dialing 1 + area code + telephone number from landlines, or area code + telephone number from mobile phones. Seven-digit dialing will no longer be supported.
March 26, 2025: Activation of the 357-area code. New telephone lines or services may be assigned numbers with the 357-area code. Existing 559 numbers will remain unchanged.
Existing Numbers: Current 559 phone numbers will not change.
New Numbers: Starting March 26, 2025, new phone numbers may be assigned the 357-area code.
Dialing Procedure: Beginning February 26, 2025, you must dial 1 + area code + telephone number for all calls from landlines, and area code + telephone number from mobile phones.
