At Tuesday’s State Center Community College District Board of Trustees meeting, MCC students Elena Bartolo and Elida Galiano were recognized to celebrate their selection to participate in a national internship called Into the Fields with Student Action with Farmworkers in North Carolina and South Carolina.
During their time on the east coast, Elena and Elida will be trained on issues that farmworkers face, and will be placed to work full-time with migrant education programs, legal aid offices, rural health clinics, community-based organizations, and farmworker unions.
This internship will take place from May 29 – Aug. 2 and both students will receive a stipend, travel to the Carolinas, rent-free housing, mentorship, and a scholarship. Both Elena and Elena addressed the board on Tuesday night, speaking about their backgrounds along with their participation in our College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP). We are so proud of them and know they’re going to do great this summer!
