Dear campus community.
As we watch events in Ukraine unfold, I want to acknowledge that we are more than students and employees at Madera Community College. We are human beings being impacted by the world around us. We are members of a global community that is being shaken. There is so much we must navigate in our daily lives. So much complexity as we face the day.
Like you, I have sat in horror and disbelief watching the news about Ukraine. Inconceivable aggression and terror. Families who have lost everything and now seek refuge in foreign lands. I have felt a variety of emotions.
I want to make sure you know there is support for you. Please take advantage of our mental health support services. Stay connected to your community of support, which includes your instructors, staff and fellow students. We will navigate this humanitarian crisis together.
I also want to recognize that there are people in our community with a connection to both Ukraine and Russia, as well as neighboring countries. There may be students or family members being called to military service in that region. There are people in our community who are reliving trauma from armed conflicts in other regions. Let us come together in peace and unity, as global citizens, to support each other.
Please take care of yourself, and let us know how we can support you during this time.
