Strategies for Navigating Challenging Student Situations

Informational / Instructional / Faculty

Faculty often face challenging student situations ranging from aggression and communication issues to mental health disclosures, homelessness, academic honesty concerns, and students in crisis. This interactive session brings together faculty, counselors, deans, union representatives, the CARE team, and campus support services to build a shared understanding of how to respond effectively and compassionately. Using faculty scenarios, we will work in groups to identify best practices, healthy boundaries, communication strategies, and appropriate referral pathways.

Recognizing and Managing Stress and Burnout in Higher Education

This training session provides faculty with essential knowledge about stress and burnout within academic settings. Participants will learn to identify warning signs of burnout and distinguish between chronic and acute stress patterns. The session examines faculty burnout, exploring how factors such as increasing workload demands and the emotional labor inherent in teaching contribute to professional exhaustion. Attendees will gain insight into the systemic challenges facing higher education professionals and discover evidence-based coping strategies to maintain wellbeing. Through interactive discussion and practical frameworks, participants will develop personalized approaches to managing workplace stress, setting healthy boundaries, and building resilience.
